I Met The Walrus
I had never heard of the YouTube screening room - and I don’t recall how I stumbled across it this morning, but it is an interesting place. One of the featured short films there is a clip called “I Met The Walrus” which was nominated in 2008 for an Academy Award for Animated Short Film.
The clip is actually a visual that has been added to an interview with John Lennon. The interviewer was then 14 year old Jerry Levitan, who in 1969 somehow managed to slip past security, and convinced Lennon to grant him an interview from his hotel room in Toronto.
The interview itself, coming from a 14 year old, is nothing ground breaking - but it is indeed rare, and the animation that accompanies the clip is fun stuff - you can’t watch it and not be reminded of both Yellow Submarine/Peter Max style graphics, or those created by Terry Gilliam for Monty Python’s Flying Circus.
Go here to visit the screening room. It looks like they have quite a few interesting film shorts on the site.
